Training and Responsible Whale Watching Guide

The Training and Responsible Whale-Watching Guide is an initiative of the Marine Mammal Observation Network (MMON), the World Wildlife Fund Canada (WWF-Canada) and the St. Lawrence Global Observatory (SLGO). The Guide summarizes information pertaining to boating and shipping issues in whale habitat for the waters of Eastern Canada, including the Gulf of St. Lawrence. The platform is organized in two broad user categories, each providing information on different whale protection measures for their respective audience: recreational boaters and ship operators.

The data gathered by MMON and citizen science data are centralized and made publicly available on the marine mammal visualization tool. You can collect whale observation data, and report an observation; thereby actively participating in their conservation.

Training courses on identifying whales and how to conduct oneself in their presence are also available on their website.
