An Accessible Ocean - Sixth Ocean Decade Laboratory

From 10 to 12 May, the sixth Ocean Decade Laboratory will take place on the topic of the Ocean Decade Outcome “An Accessible Ocean”. It will be hosted by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research in partnership with the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO.


Open access to marine data and knowledge will maximize the quality of the information mined, packaged and communicated to support management, innovation and decision-making, enabling everyone to understand what we need to do in order to create the “Ocean We Want”. The Chairs of the Laboratory “An Accessible Ocean”, Anna-Katharina Hornidge (Director, German Development Institute, Germany) and Sebastian Unger (Head, Ocean Governance Division IASS Potsdam, Germany) are pleased to welcome you. So what can you expect?

  • Core Event on 10 May, 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm CEST: Panel discussions on good governance, open access to data, information and technologies and much more! Watch the teaser here!

  • Around 20 Satellite Activities from 10 to 12 May: Various formats around the world.

  • Wrap-up on 12 May from 2:30 pm to 4:00 pm CEST: Interviews around the results of the Core Event and Satellite Activities as well as a concluding panel discussion on specific policy recommendations.
