Alexi grew up in a coastal community in Nova Scotia with a strong reverence for the ocean and interest in the environment starting at a young age. She attended Dalhousie University to obtain a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science with an Emphasis in Ecology; in her final year, her studies had a focus on intertidal ecology. She continued with a Master of Environmental Studies focusing on community involvement in the planning and management of coastal areas.
In September 2010 Alexi started working with the ACZISC (Atlantic Coastal Zone Information Steering Committee)/ COINAtlantic as Project Officer. She started her new position as Executive Director in 2021. Alexi has a particular interest in governance at the coastal and ocean interface, open data, and integrated coastal and ocean / resource management and associated marine spatial planning.
